I was told that I had been overpaid as i had stopped working 5 months before the end of the financial year. I went through there re-evaluation on online, supplied all documents that i could to show that i was not over payed but unemployed needing that benefit, but because the company that I worked for closed down i could not get a letter form them so I wrote a stat dec and had it signed by a JP. Two weeks went by then I got another letter stating that they had done a review and i owed them that debt still. I made rang the DHS and made a complaint and contest the debt i was told by a very rude and very blunt woman who was meant to a supervisor stated "we don't care if you do or dont have the debt you have to pay!". I went on to make a about 6 more calls arguing with both the DHS and Centrelink with no success. It took a letter written to Hank Jongen letting him know in no uncertain terms that i had no debt, that what they are doing is unlawful, that the onus is not on us to prove that we dont have a debt and that they are corporate entity's and law is not theres to use as they wish that they have to obey the law. Within 12 hours, i had a phone call from the DHS and they have again conducted another review and they now they admit that there was no over payment and have now removed the debt in full.
It is atrocious, infuriating, disappointing the rule of law has been so far eroded by a bunch of corporate's. By people that are meant to represent, to better the electorate's to better the citizens way of life. All i see i failure by this corporate government. failure as a government, but more important failure as human beings!!!
