Battling a $744 debt from Centrelink, they sent the letter to a wrong address that I hadn't lived in for 6 years, so had to start paying the debt immediately without even having it reassessed as I didn't have a chance to.
-After several phone calls, a failure with the reassessment system where it didn't acknowledge any of my payslips or employment history so I there was no change in my debt, speaking to 10 different people for everyday different phone call, getting my reassessment reassessed, and then being called yesterday to say my debt had only been halved, I still have no idea how they have come to that figure. So I'm going to wait till I get the official letter after it has been Quality Assured to see what happens next - I may end up just paying the debt because I simply couldn't be bothered, and it's not worth the stress and anger that's currently building up inside of me to continue pursuing this issue. If there is a Class Action lawsuit bought up though, I'll definitely be interested in that.
I also emailed the Department Secretary of the DHS, but have had no response except 'we acknowledge your response and will contact you in due course'.
The Government should be taken to task on this issue, whoever signed off on the System sacked, Minister Tudge should be questioned as well as Porter about their lies and deceit, and to be more transparent about the figures tey ahve mentioned but won't go into detail on.
There should also be an investigation into whether this constitutes as fraud or extortion - holding the country's civilians to ransom, and having a guilty until proven innocent by your own self nature, is disgusting and I certainly hope there are massive ramifications for this despicable government.
