I did not get issued with a debt but I was issued with a request for more information from 2014.
Because I found work, and dropped of the Centreelink reporting system, my Centrelink earnings for my employer and my ATO earnings per PAYG Payment Summary were different. Because of this it was automatically assumed I was a welfare cheat.
I was then made to navigate the Centrelink website where they prompt you to agree with the ATO figures which in my case would have automatically divided my annual earnings by 26, applied evenly over they year (even though I did not work wvenly) and would have deemed all my Centrelink payments as being farudlent and repayable.
Thankfully I called Centrelink and was shown how to enter in actual earnings by fortnight which involved me retrieving12 mopnths of payslips and many hours work.
Once completing the form it then took many weeks and calls to get confirmation all was OK.
Whilst I am on of the so-called unaffected people of this shameful programme that completely reverses theonus of proof I was lucky in that I had the financial and intellectual smarts to understand the system and submit correct data that cleared my file. I can easily see how others have not been so lucky and I think this is a national disgrace
An appalling PR stunt that tries to perpetuate the myth that it is dole bludgers that are causing our budget deficit and not the lack of economic management of the current government.
I believe it is cruel bullying behaviour of a government compeltely lacking in any human compassion and quite possibly illegal.
