NotMyDebt is the result of what is in someways a remote community hackathon. There is a clear injustice here: with individuals being sent debt letters in record numbers, with an onerous burden of proof to provide details from up to six years ago, and with a very short time period (21 days) to respond within a system that is de-humanising and precarious even at its best.
The volume of 20 thousand notices per week (Centrelink's own figures) is creating a staggering number of false debts, with the real damage this inflicts becoming especially apparent over this Christmas/New Years holiday period.
This site is an attempt to provide resources and a gathering place for a community response to this unjust process.
