Tell us about your debt and how has this affected you? e.g. anxiety levels, financial and accommodation stress:

This fake, false debt has resulted in me having 100’s of phone calls from debt collectors. Sometimes 15 per week at all hours including weekends. This constant harassment means that I am filled with dread every time I hear my phone ring. Multiple letters sent in the mail means I’m filled with fear every time I see a letter in my mailbox.
Yesterday I received a letter from Centrelink saying that the amount of debt has changed from $13k to $1k. There was no apology or explanation as to why I was wrongly accused of being a Centrelink cheat. There was no explanation as to what the remaining $1k relates to. I plan to continue to challenge this ‘debt’.

How do you feel about the way the Government has handled this process?:

Over the past year I have received multiple letters from Centrelink and external debt collectors demanding I pay this false debt. The letters included making threats about interest being compounded daily, wages being garnished, passport canceled, tax return confiscated etc. this kind of treatment by the government is disgraceful. I am NOT a Centrelink cheat. I do not deserve such disgusting treatment but I was subjected to it for over a year.
