Appeal, appeal, appeal

Debt amount:
$6000
Has your case been referred to a collection agency?:
No
Payment Type:
Newstart Allowance
Appealing Debt?:
Yes in process
Tell us about your debt and how has this affected you? e.g. anxiety levels, financial and accommodation stress:

I appealed at a Centrelink office but they fobbed me off a few times until I insisted. I then appealed the decision which is pointless as it's still just you vs Centrelink but once that is complete you are elligble for AAT and AAT2.

A debt raised by Centrelink can be waived if it can be established that

a) the sole cause of the debt was administrative error and that you continued to receive the payment in good faith; or

b) you did not knowingly make a false statement or representation or did not knowingly fail to comply with a provision of the Social Security Act and special circumstances exist.

How do you feel about the way the Government has handled this process?:

As a low income earner and someone who has been in and out of unstable work for years my quality of life is very unstable at the best of times. Some people were not built for the corporate landscape that our politicians have sculpted. My small debt is a grain of a crumb compared to the atrocities of the large scale day light robbery that is occuring through corporate tax fraud ect ect ect. It is sickening that the government would chase so viscously the most vunerable of people for such small amounts that mean the world to those said minorities. My mental health is extremely frail, a lot of that contributing from being bullied so heavily by debt collectors/harassment mail/phone calls and general disregard for the fact that I am a human being.
