What a joke!

$6200
Date debt issued:
Thursday, 20 July 2017
Period debt occurred:
July 2016 to July 2017
Has your case been referred to a collection agency?:
No
Payment Type:
Family Tax Benefit
Appealing Debt?:
Yes in process
Tell us about your debt and how has this affected you? e.g. anxiety levels, financial and accommodation stress:

My partner and I reported our income accurately and according to the income tests we were entitled to FTB payments.
Toward the end of the financial year, I changed jobs and got paid out 4 weeks annual leave from my previous employer whilst starting work at my new employer.
Even though we reported all income increases throughout the year to the point where we eventually stopped receiving payments, my average income for the year due to the leave payout is now too high so apparently we now have to pay back our FTB for the entire year with a debt of $6200 dollars.

I have written letters to 3 MP's without any reply and the process for appealing the debt is ridiculous.
Oh, and did I mention they want it paid back within one month?
This is madness.

How do you feel about the way the Government has handled this process?:

It's disgusting.
I feel like a second class citizen - this sort of stress and financial intimidation has the power to destroy lives.
