Massive 8200+ debt must be rubbish!!!

$8200
Date debt issued:
Tuesday, 31 October 2017
Period debt occurred:
July 2013 to June 2015
Has your case been referred to a collection agency?:
No
Payment Type:
Youth Allowance
Appealing Debt?:
I don't know how to
Tell us about your debt and how has this affected you? e.g. anxiety levels, financial and accommodation stress:

This is ridiculous!!!! I received a letter from Centrelink via registered post which told me to confirm my employment income.
I went through the entire process to gather all my payslips and enter in all the payments online. After I submitted all the information, Centrelink told me it turns out they overpaid me $8200+ !!!!!!

Over the past 5 years I've paid a few small debts due to minor clerical errors in reporting my payments (only small sums from $200 to $700), so I dare say those small debts fixed any previous issues I've had with Centrelink and made everything a clean slate... apparently not!!!

This makes my blood boil to find out I may owe centrelink more money and at that massive amount!
If I knew Centrelink would later chase mystery money then I would never had undertaken study in the first place.

Not only do Centrelink claim I owe them such a substantial amount of money, they provided no evidence of where they got this figure from and "claimed" that it was a discrepancy from ATO reported payments.
The most bizarre thing is that when I entered all the gross payments from my payslips, it was a few hundred dollars less than my payment summary for each year (est. maybe 1000 over the 3 financial years i had to report).
Maybe that was an data entry error from my behalf but either way the figures are just not adding up and this is causing me a hell of a lot of stress.
I currently work as a manager at Coles and it's leading up to Christmas, the busiest time of the year for us, I have a fiance and we're planning a wedding and our honeymoon, and if I were to be attacked by such an enormous debt at this time it would cause absolute turmoil in the household! We'd literally have to put our wedding and honeymoon plans on hold, due to us living paycheck to paycheck with the increased cost of living in Australia at the moment!

Im sure most of you are in a similar situation and cant afford to pay a mystery debt that has no evidence backing it! Isn't this why we have reciepts of purchase? so we have evidence of where our money is going and who received it.
Maybe Centrelink should take note of some basic financial insitutions and ACTUALLY PROVIDE MORE EVIDENCE!!!!
I would love the see the algorithm they used to concoct these debts and post it online for coders to pull apart and tell me everything wrong with it, or better yet, TELL THE AUSTRALIAN PUBLIC EVERYTHING WRONG WITH IT!!!

This is a scam, nothing more, nothing less, and we need to do something about it as the Australian public and victims!

How do you feel about the way the Government has handled this process?:

Very poorly, whoever designed this should be sacked and their qualifications burnt in front of their own eyes. 10/10 FAIL!
