I am being pursed for a debt raised from youth allowance in 2010-2013 (7 years ago!!!). I received this allowance whilst studying full time and also working casually for multiple employers over the three year period. I have received both a letter and a phone call from Department of Human Services informing me of my debt. I have supplied full documentation of my employment history and payslips from the three year period. However they are claiming that I was overpaid as I did not correctly state my fortnightly earnings.
I have spent multiple days and numerous hours calling the Department of Human Services (of which poor customer service), chasing previous employers and now I will be pursing legal aid. This has caused me extreme anxiety and financial stress.
I do not believe the debt is true or warranted nor should it be forced onto people who have received welfare! There needs to be a case action!!
I am extremely disgusted with the way the Government has handled this process. Those who have previously received welfare should not be punished nor should they be subjected to this review. Why is it that the Government wants to bully the vulnerable?
