Centrelink: You have a debt. YOU MUST PAY!
Me, phoning it in: But I reported things accurately?
Centrelink: But you might not have! You must show us the paperwork. Also we could take you to court!
Me: How did you work out my debt?
Centrelink: We look at your income tax and devide it by 12, because you obviously earnt the exact same for the whole year!
Me: But I was an on call relief teacher, and also couldn't have worked for the school holidays in that role.
Centrelink: Or maybe you are defrauding us! Perhaps you are a welfare cheat?!
Me: Also superannuation and HEC debt came out of my pay too.
Centrelink: we demand all of your financial records including bank records, pay slips, everything! Our forensic accountants are thorough!
Me: But you just told me you averaged out the earnings over a year? Including school holidays? For a relief teacher? They don't sound thorough? Can I just give you these pay slips?
Centrelink: I assure you we are thorough! Also yes, just payslips.
...also you might not end up owing anything.
Me: What?
Centrelink: well we average it out. We might actually owe you money, but we dont have to pay you.
Me: What?
Centrelink: well we're not that thorough. We average things out. Also Grrr! We will sell this debt onto a debt collection agency!!!!
Me: The debt that you can't accuratly calculate or prove without these payslips? That I might not actually owe?
Centrelink: Yes! That why we send you letters! Because you might owe us thousands! We overcalculate slightly. So send us those pay slips!
Me: And you sell these unprovable fictional debts onto debt collectors? At a loss? But also without actual proof?
Centrelink: Which is why we send letters and ask for payslips, so you do not incur a debt!
Me: So even if I've done everything right and declared accurately I still have to do this or I'll have a debt?
Centrelink: Yes
Me: Why dont you just ask for payslips at the time?
Centrelink:We're not allowed to do that. Its voluntary.

Also me: asking for a clear copy of the process after the "data matching" written anywhere, in legislation, guidelines or otherwise.
Them: google "data matching"
Me: thats not what Im looking for. I'm looking for this process written somewhere?
Them: Google "social security data matching"
Me: no, this process, after data matching?
Them: hold music for an hour. Suddenly disconnected

How do you feel about the way the Government has handled this process?:

Criminal
