So my "debt" has apparently occurred when the information I gave to CENTERLINK when I started employment was "______ hotel" as on my payslips but when I got my group certificate it had "______ Nominees trading as ______ hotel" so they have this as 2 employers... I'm very annoyed as I haven't recieved a payment from them in almost 3 years and this is from 6 years ago....
how have they handled my situation very poorly...
I called before the due date to sort it out because I've always dotted all my is and crossed all my ts with them and I also know that during that time I was overpaid by around $200 ish as we got paid monthly so I had to write hours down all the time this was taken from my tax return at that time...
So when I contacted them they said they could see what had occured and would investigate and get back to me by close of business never happened so I waited the next day still nothing in the meantime debt was due on 6/1 and at 9am on 6/1 I got a msg from collection agency how can this be its only the due date not over due yet...
So I call again "oh yes I can see what's going on" so tell me — "I can't discuss it with you" um my account my right to know — "I'll call you by close of business today" — no, explain to me now how when my tax had been done and I've already paid a debt for that time there's a debt — "we don't use the tax office information" how do you know there's a debt — "we use the tax office information" you just said you don't use the tax office information — "no we don't" then where are you getting this information? — "we use the tax office information" but again you said you don't use the tax office information — "I'm terminating this conversation" ok but when will I know the outcome of the investigation into my debt? — "I'll call you by close of business today"....
Surprise no contact....
I feel for the ppl who just blindly pay the debt because they don't know any different...
Also was told if have to start paying the debt off while they investigate why both operators have acknowledged that there is no debt so why would I pay it.. Their reply is well if there is no debt we will refund all money paid.. Umm sorry but it took you 6 years to work out there was a debt I'm not waiting that long for you to decide to pay it back...
As a government body they should be ashamed of themselves and their conduct on those who are vulnerable... I think that if you are going to work in a department where you have to deal with ppl who are upset and confused you should have some basic human kindness and not be rude and intimidating...
I'm now calling the ombudsman because I can't get any satisfactory answers from the government body put in place to supposedly help us..
Topper for me is where I work now is being sold and so employment is uncertain so I asked if I had to rely on the system again how do I go about it "you can apply but while it shows a debt against you it won't be processed" again kicking ppl while they are down....
