I received an employment income confirmation letter in April 2018. I was so stressed as I am a full time university student who also works part time and had to ring around my employers to get payslips from nearly 3 years ago. I completed the income confirmation and never heard from Centrelink about this issue again. Is is now April 2019, almost a year later, and the compliance team call me with the result of my income confirmation. $510 owed. I tried to explain this cannot be possible because in 2016 (when half of the debt was supposedly accumulated) I was not receiving Centrelink payments due to working full-time in my gap year. They did not listen and continued to tell me that I must pay this debt and they will set up a payment plan. I cried and cried and just had no idea what to do.
I contacted Not my Debt a few days later. They have assisted me tremedously and words cannot explain how thankful I am for their help. Truly. They have made this experience wayyyy less stressful for me as I am currently chronically ill on top of all of this.
I sent a letter of appeal to Centrelink who then called a week later to tell me that I now only owe $240 as they REALISED I never got paid by them during the 2016 period they specified. I am sending my appeal to be revieved by an ARO.
Never stop fighting for what is just and right.
Absolutely horribly and so let down. I have been lied to, passed on to so many different people. The only time I have been given accurate and truthful information is by the amazing Not My Debt Team.
They didn't even go over my alleged debt before calling and accusing me. This shows as almost half has been wiped. I am so disappointed
